(October 7, 2019) – After winning her 30th career title and second China Open in 2018, Caroline Wozniacki had similar success in this year’s tournament before being eliminated by Naomi Osaka in the Semifinals.

Before reaching the Semifinals, Caroline picked up victories in Round of 64, Round of 32, Round of 16, and the Quarterfinals. The two-time China Open champ got off to a strong start, dropping only four games in Round of 64 against Lauren Davis. Caroline put together a streak of eight unanswered games with 16 winners and seven aces. Caroline would go on to Round of 32 where she cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Christina McHale.

“I think I played pretty aggressively today,” Wozniacki stated after the win. “I came up with some good volleys, I returned well, I changed direction well I think. Moving forward I have to keep serving well and returning well, hopefully just keep playing the way that I have.”

Up next was a showdown with Katerina Siniakova in Round of 16. Caroline prevailed with a 7-5, 6-4 win and moved on to her fifth China Open Quarterfinal, where she would face and defeat Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-6(5) in one hour and 41 minutes.

“I feel like I play very well here. It suits my game,” Caroline said after the match.

Trying to reach the China Open Final for the second consecutive year, Caroline came up short against Naomi Osaka in the Semifinal. This was Caroline’s deepest run in 2019 since reaching the Volvo Car Open Final in Charleston back in April.
