As the 2010 and 2016 Pan Pacific Open Champion, Caroline Wozniacki was looking for that same success in the 2017 edition and closing out her consistently strong play for the year. She found that success early, getting by Shelby Rogers in Round 16 (4-6 6-1 6-4).

Caroline would advance to the Quarterfinals, where she would defeat Dominika Cibulkova (3-6 7-6(5) 3-1 RET). Caroline’s next opponent was top-ranked Garbiñe Muguruza in the Semifinals. The Dane gained an impressive victory against the world ranked No. 1 in the Semifinal by the score of 6-2, 6-0. Advancing to her seventh final of the year, Caroline successfully defended her 2016 title with her victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-0, 7-5. Caroline dominated with six aces and never faced a breaking point to secure her first title of 2017 and the 26th of her career, this is the fourth-most among active players.

Coming off of her title win in Japan, Caroline has qualified for the WTA’s crown jewel Season Ending Championhsip in Singapore. She has returned to her best form and currently sits inside the top 10 in the WTA rankings at No. 6. Caroline is in the midst of competing in the China Open and with defeats against Wang (6-1, 6-7, 6-1) and Pavlyuchenkova (6-2, 6-2) she has advanced to the Round of 16 where she will face Petra Kvitová.
