Having won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship six years ago back in 2011 and reached the semi-finals in the previous four, Caroline was looking to earn another championship title in Dubai this year.

In the quarter finals, Caroline beat American teen Catherine Bellis, 6-3, 6-2. In the semi-finals, Caroline defeated Latvian tennis player Anastasija Sevastova. Caroline, who has beaten Sevastova in the two previous meetings, triumphed once again with an impressive 6-3, 6-4 win.

Caroline’s win against Elina Sevastova guaranteed her a spot in the finals, which put her in consecutive finals for the first time since 2014, when she went back-to-back at the U.S. Open and the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

Though she ultimately fell to Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-2, Caroline finished the tournament with the most career wins at Dubai, with 22 total in the past six years she’s played in the tournament.

With Caroline’s strong start to the year, she continued her rise in the WTA rankings moving up one spot to No. 14.
