Caroline Wozniacki Impressive performance at the Rogers Cup in Toronto

Caroline Wozniacki put together another impressive performance last week in the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada that resulted in her reaching her sixth final of 2017. Caroline had won the 2010-edtion of the event, the Coupe Rogers in Montreal, but she arrived at this year’s event 0-4 since it relocated to Toronto.

After a first round bye, Caroline Wozniacki secured her first-ever win in Toronto with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round. In the third round she scored a solid straight sets victory over close friend and longtime rival Agnieszka Radwanska (6-3, 6-1) to reach the quarterfinals.

Awaiting Caroline was a matchup with No. 1 seed Karolina Pliskova. Caroline survived three rain delays to gain her first-ever win over a reigning No. 1 seed with a 7-5, 6-7(3), 6-4 victory. “I just kept fighting and doing my thing,” Wozniacki said on her effort against Pliskova.

Next up for was a semifinal showdown with Sloane Stephens. Caroline cruised into the Rogers Cup final with a 6-2, 6-3 win, defeating Stephens in 83 minutes. “I think I was moving very well and retrieving and just trying to stay aggressive, but it was a difficult match,” Caroline said.

Caroline now had her eyes set on Elina Svitolina who she would meet in the Rogers Cup final. Although Caroline ultimately fell to Svitolina (6-4, 6-0), her constantly strong play moved her up one spot to No. 5 in the latest WTA rankings. She takes to the court this week for the 2017 Western & Southern Open in Mason, Ohio for her final tune up before the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the U.S. Open.
