On Tuesday, Caroline played an exhibition against Serena Williams in the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden. Caroline fell to the WTA world number one player 7-5, 6-4 in a battle of close off-court friends. Caroline and Serena have met 11 times before, including in the final of the 2014 US Open. It was Williams’ first match since her runner up performance at the Australian Open. Caroline and Serena also played in an impromptu mixed doubles match with Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils earlier in the day.

This was the second time Caroline had played in the BNP Paribas Showdown at The Garden, having previously played in the event in 2012 against Maria Sharapova.

Caroline heads to Indian Wells, California where she will play in the BNP Paribas Open. Caroline is seeded twentieth and will face the winner of China’s Shuai Zhang and France’s Pauline Parmentier.
