DUBAI // Caroline Wozniacki will face Venus Williams in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship semi-final after dispatching Sorana Cirstea comfortably at the Aviation Club on Thursday afternoon.
Wozniacki, the No 8 seed here this week, needed just an hour and two minutes to beat her Romanian opponent 6-1,
6-2. The victory means on Friday she will face seven-time grand slam winner Williams, who she has failed to win even a set from in four matches. The last time the two met was in 2008 in Miami.
Wozniacki, the former world No 1, raced through the opening set against Cirstea, ranked 27th in the world, and continued to serve strongly in the second as she progressed to the final four for the third time in as many years.
The Dane defeated Svetlana Kutznetsova in the final here in 2011, but has fallen in the semi-finals in her past two attempts. She knows if she is to progress to the final, she will need to be at her best: Williams has not dropped a set all week and is 13 games undefeated at the Aviation Club.
